Pocket Chick Pick: Vanessa Middleton

Hi everyone! When I knew I was going to be doing the Pocket Chick Pick segment for the blog, I was excited to be able to choose a project from the Fancy Pants Designs Facebook page, that was made by you guys, and take some inspiration from that and create my own project!  There were so many awesome ideas out there, it was hard to choose!

I Miss Having You 'Round Card by Vanessa Middleton

I finally decided on an adorable pinwheel card, made by Vanessa Middleton for my inspiration! I love how she curled the edges back so it looked like a picture frame! But I REALLY loved the pinwheels!!!  They are so fun and just plain cute! Perfect for the Childish Things line! I'd been kicking around the idea of making a mobile, and then I remembered I had this twig 'branch' at home (that I've been holding onto for years)... so I dashed home and got it! This is what I came up with...

Using the awesome and amazingly versatile Childish Things line, I created my mobile (one that hangs against the wall).  I fussy-cut the cute little ovals off of the PLAYTIME paper, of the frog, prince, princess, butterfly, castle and pony. I pop-dotted those on top of three accordion folded rosettes, so there was a front and a back. That way if it flopped around, there would be two sides to look at instead of just one.

I picked three small metal charms, and cut scraps of paper to put in the frames, and then added small chipboard embellishments to them. I threaded some linen thread to them and hung them on the branch.



I made the pinwheel out of the Imagination paper and fastened it with a brad. I put a chipboard embellishment on top of the brad, and then set that aside while I worked on the other side. I stamped the frog on a scrap of the Strips paper, and punched it into a circle. Then I pop-dotted it onto a larger scalloped circle of the gold side of Snack Time, and popped that onto the back a larger, red checked side of Snack Time. When that was done, I flipped it over and used some good and sticky glue dots to stick the pinwheel down. 




Using the blue flowered ribbon, I made some ribbon bows for the four rosettes, added a button and used twine to hang them from the branch as well. I made some little paper flowers using the Beach Bum paper flowers and the smallest buttons from the Childish Things collection (it's so awesome that the colors coordinated so perfectly!! way to go Fancy Pants Designs!).  I added the flowers along the branch, hiding where I'd tied the rosettes and charms to it!



For the Homemade sweets chipboard embellishment, I made another rosette out of the gorgeous Buddy plaid! (love plaids, too!) I popped that onto a scalloped circle of the Snack Time again.



I made a folded ribbon bow with the wide red and white striped ribbon and added that to the left side of the branch, and voila'!

I just adore this page by Sophie Crespy! There are so many things to be inspired by ... the trendy hexagons up in the corner, the way she did her journaling with the strips of patterned paper, and even the little touches she added—like the stitching on the photos! Every little detail is just perfection!

I didn't stray too far from Sophie's design when making my own page about my mischevious little girl and her love of sneaking away with her daddy's ipod! I did flip the page and put the hexagons in the left corner and my title in the right—the opposite of Sophie's layout. I cut my hexagons from colorful papers from the new Childish Things collection. The ledger background is from the Love Story collection and I tossed in some bright pink paper from Summer Soul. I love mixing things up to get a different look!

When I saw this page by Anna Zaprzelska on the Fancy Pants facebook page I was drawn to the soft elements, warm colors, layers and clean design. I knew I wanted to use this layout as inspiration for a page about my daughter, Audrey.

I really love the colors in the Summer's End line and chose to use it on my page. This line is very versatile and can easily work when scrapbooking things other than Fall themed projects.

My page began by layering the green patterned paper strip onto a brown strip of patterned paper. Next, I added my photo on the far right of that layered area just like Anna did. I like how Anna had tags, flowers and other elements layered around her photo. I really love the Fall Frames patterned paper in this line. I simply cut out the frames and placed them below the strip of brown patterned paper. Next, I cut out some of the pretty, delicate doily patterns from the windy day paper, added a few dicut design embellishments and layered them around my page. I also used a design embellishment for my title.
Chipboard was added for interest and more dimension. I cut three small flowers from the Flocked Transparency for this line, placed a button in the centers and added them around my page. I love the texture it adds because of the flocking.

Pocket Chick Pick: Veronica Johson

I thought this card posted by Veronica Johnson (aka "Kits N Bits") in our gallery was fantastic and I just knew that this CARD could inspire a LAYOUT!  :)  I loved the design so much that I used it as a sketch for my layout.

I used the Off To School collection to create my page. I made a banner across the top just like Veronica did, but I also added a bit of the negative piece from my chipboard and then journaled inside it. I kept the four squares at the bottom of the page (well, more like rectangles), all from the same patterned paper, but instead of using one piece of paper to layer behind the squares, I cut some of the cards from the Cards sheet of paper and then made a mat behind the squares.

I wanted some of the pieces to stick out further then the others to give it a unique random look. :) And then I added some photos and embellishments and the title (which you'll notice is in the same place as the sentiment from Veronica's card). I am very happy with the way my layout turned out!

When I saw Jenny's layout featuring Beach Babe it just made me smile! I loved the colors, the pictures, the large sun embellishment and the buttons (I am a sucker for buttons!). I scraplifted her fabulous design using Fancy Pants' new Oct. 31 collection.

Pocket Chick Pick: Christina Hoffman

The Pocket Chick Pick is one of my favorite assignments we do here on the Fancy Pants blog! I love searching for inspiration among other people's work, and this month I was lucky enough to come across Christina Hoffman's fun 2 page spread using the To the Moon line.


Up To No Good by Christina Hoffman

I don't typically scrap 2 pagers myself, but I was intrigued by how Christina had combined a shaped pattern paper with a different pattern layered underneath it. I decided to see if I could create a similar look on a single, 8.5x11 page. Using the BRAND NEW Baby Mine line (which by the way also inspired the title of my layout) die cut paper and patterns, here's what I came up with.

I also loved the way Christina clustered the die cut embellishments in the corners. So, I grabbed some of the new Baby Mine line of printed filter paper embellishments and added them as an element off the side of the layout.



In the end, I love how the layouts have similar features, but that they each maintain their own character. Thank you Christina for sharing your work with us!
