Last Summer, Gossamer Blue and Fancy Pants Designs organized a Guest Designing contest. Our winner, Diane Payne, is our September guest and received a bix box full of Fancy Pants Designs goodies! She graced us with beautiful, thoughtful and meaningful projects, along with a questionnaire to get to know her better!

Hi Diane! We are very happy to have you guest design for Fancy Pants Designs! Can you tell us a little bit more about you?
Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be here sharing a little about myself along with some projects I made with the new Fancy Pants Designs collections. I married the “new kid in town” that I met in 6th grade. I’m a lucky girl…he’s my best friend in the whole world and we’ve been married almost 25 years. We currently reside in Texas and have a son, Wyatt, a daughter, Alyssa, and two little lap dogs that complete our family. The kids are both in high school and keep us busy (in a good way) with football, softball, and wrestling. We enjoy traveling as a family and generally take a beach vacation in the summer and a trip to the mountains in the winter for a little snowboarding and skiing.
I work full-time writing Flight Attendant training programs for an airline. When I’m not working or spending time with the family, I can most likely be found in my scrapbook room. I have been blessed with many designing opportunities over the last few years and have been published in Scrapbook Trends, Create, and Creating Keepsakes. I am currently designing for Lily Bee, {a flair for buttons}, Come On Get Crafty and write. click. scrapbook. I also enjoy photography, reading, and working out.
How long have you been scrapbooking?
I’ve been scrapbooking since I was married almost 25 years ago. My first album was of my honeymoon, complete with bits of memorabilia I saved and hand drawn titles on copy paper. After I had kids I was re-introduced to scrapbooking through a Creative Memories party. Today, anything goes in my paper crafting. I enjoy mixing 8 ½ x 11 layouts in with my 12 x 12 pages and will make an occasional mini album too.
The topics for my pages are driven by whatever photo or story is inspiring me at the moment, although I do make more everyday moments layouts than event pages. I have a large collection of vintage photos from my family and my husband’s family too. They will often make an appearance on my pages and are fun to mix in with current day photos.
My most used scrapbooking tools include my vintage Underwood typewriter, my sewing machine and my Silhouette Cameo. I will use at least one of those on every page I make.
What is your favorite Fancy Pants Designs line? Why?
My favorite Fancy Pants Designs collection to date is What a Wonderful Day. I love bright bold colors and yellow and this collection delivers both!
Show us your 3 latest Fancy Pants Designs layouts and tell us a little about each one…
The newest Fancy Pants Designs lines are a great mix of colors and themes, providing something for everyone.
This layout uses the Collecting Moments line. The design for this layout was inspired by the Button Set embellishments. I love how the buttons and chipboard looked clustered together on the packing card and thought it would be fun to create a similar look by grouping those embellishments on each side of my photo and filling in the spaces with pieces from the Ticket Roll and sticker sheets.
For my next layout I used the Happy Go Lucky line.
Happy Go Lucky Perky / Happy Go Lucky Sunbeam / Happy Go Lucky Sticker Fundamentals / Happy Go Lucky Tape Stickers / Happy Go Lucky Label Stickers / Happy Go Lucky 4x6 Brag Pad / Happy Go Lucky Small Decorative Tags / Happy Go Lucky Patterned Photo Frames / Collecting Moments Resin Flowers/Vintage Hues / Cork Shapes Hearts & Stars
I like using the coordinating Tape Stickers included in each collection to create quick and easy borders for large elements. For more visual interest, I mixed and layered a variety of Tape Stickers over each other.
To create a focal point for my title and the large flower I cut using my Cameo I placed them inside a Patterned Photo Frame.
When I saw the Merry Little Christmas line I knew I wanted to use it for a vintage photo of my father-in-law at Christmas time.
Merry Little Christmas Kris Kringle / Merry Little Christmas Caroling / Merry Little Christmas North Pole / Merry Little Christmas Sticker Fundamentals / Merry Little Christmas Label Stickers / Merry Little Christmas Red Alpha Stickers / Merry Little Christmas Large Decorative Tags / Merry Little Christmas Flair
The photo really tells a story all on its own…I love seeing all the popular toys of the 50’s era around the Christmas tree. To showcase the photo I layered it on top of the coordinating Decorative Tags and then embellished with stickers and flair. I really love how it all pops off the black background.
I am often giving gifts at Christmas and wanted to come up with a creative way to present it. I really love the envelopes included in each line. Typically, I use them on my layouts for hidden journaling and layering but thought it would be fun to use one for gift giving.
Merry Little Christmas 4x6 Brag Pad / Merry Little Christmas Flair / Happy Go Lucky Patterned Envelopes
First, I adhered a greeting from the 4x6 Brag Pad to the front of an envelope, embellished it with flair and then placed the gift card in the envelope.
Next, I inserted the envelope containing the gift card into an upside-down clear Mason jar.
I created a festive scene in the jar to complement the tag by adhering small Christmas bulbs to the inside of the Mason jar lid. To raise the ornaments higher than the lip of the jar lid, I stacked several foam dots to the desired height and place an ornament on top of each stack.
To finish it off, I added enough fake snow to cover the foam dots and reach the bottom of the ornaments, and then screwed on the lid.
Once the lid is secure, turn the jar over and shake!
Thank you Diane for sharing with us your talent!
