It’s summertime, which means it’s time to dust off the picnic basket and get ready for some outdoor fun! I thought it would be fun to dress up my basket a bit for our Independence Day festivities. A fun, simple way to dress it up, without attaching it permanently, is what I had in mind. I wanted to create something that I could remove and pack away for next year after the holiday is over. This is what I came up with. You can make it in no time at all! Just follow these basic instructions.
Fancy Pants Supplies:
To The Moon: Moon Rays patterned paper
To The Moon: Strips patterned paper
Artist Edition: Filter Paper Embellishments
Assorted buttons
Other supplies:
star die shape (or can be hand cut)
butchers string – approx 20 inches
adhesive
hole punch (standard)
Instructions:
1. Cut 3 star shapes. 1 blue and 2 red.
2. One by one, gather and attach a filter paper embellishment to the back of each of the 3 stars, as show below. Using a standard hole punch, punch two holes side by side in each filter backed star piece.
3. Attach the 3 pieces together by running the string through the holes of each of them. (Leaving enough string at both ends that you will eventually be able to tie it onto your basket handles).
4. Now that you have them strung together, you can start to embellish. I embellished the red stars with buttons. I created “faux” firecrackers made of rolled paper, to the blue star in the center. To make the little firecrackers, cut (3)-1x2 inch pieces of paper. Cut (3)-1/2 inch pieces of string. Add adhesive to the “inside of the cut piece of paper. Add a piece of string to the center of the paper (with just a bit of the end of the string sticking out of the end of the paper). Now roll the paper tightly.
5. Adhere all three faux firecrackers to the center of the blue star.
Now you’re ready to attach it to your basket and picnic in style!
Happy 4th of July!!
That is so cute! I love the added embellishments! Happy Fourth of July!

This is so great that I had to comment. I am usually just a lurker, taking in knowledge and nodding my head in quiet approval at the good stuff.
