This week's Fancy This project is by Anne Jo Lexander. She created this sweet little seedling jar as a hostess gift. What a cute idea! Something that the recipient will be able to enjoy for a long time as she watches the plant grow. And it's perfect for a kitchen window sill, ready to offer clippings of basil to add to some home cooking. Mmmm.
Here's how you can make your own...
Supplies:
Road Show: Flocked Transparency
Road Show: Rub-ons
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (walnut gold, coffee shop and jazz blue)
Tattered Angels Chip Tiles (Regal Collection - fluer de lis)
tag
small glass jar
gesso
gloss medium
ink pad for distressing
blue acrylic paint
ball trim
ribbon
staples
Instructions:
1. Find a small, clean, glass jar. Don't worry if there's visible adhesive on it still, we're gonna cover it.
2. Apply gesso the surface twice. (you could also leave it blank, which would make for an interesting view if you fill the jar w/small pebbles at the bottom before adding the soil, and allows you to watch the roots grow).
3. Measure the height and diameter of your jar. Cut your transparency accordingly.
4. Adhere the transparency to the jar.
5. Create your tag. Mine was sprayed with TA Glimmer Mist (walnut gold first, then coffee shop and jazz blue). Remember to let the mist dry in between each color. The edges were inked with distress ink after all the mist had dried.
6. Add a Road Show rub-on to the tag.
7. Paint fluer de lis chipboard shape (from TA Glimmer Chips Regal Collection) with blue acrylic paint and allow to dry. Then spray with TA Glimmer Mist (jazz
blue) for extra shimmer.
8. Create small banner-triangles & sew on the tag.
9. Staple ball trim on the edge of the tag.
10. Staple the (dried) tile on the tag.
11. Apply glossy accent on the tile only, and let dry overnight (or however long it'll take for it to harden). It'll add an amazing extra shimmer.
12. Tie tag to the jar with a ribbon.
13. Fill jar with soil & Basil (or any other) seedlings.
