Today we're talking trends and we've been seeing anchors popping up everywhere these days.  They're the nautical novelties of the scrapbooking world!  And I'm showing you a layout and a card that features them along with the Down by the Shore collection.

I started with a base of the anchor paper.  I hoard any navy scrap paper I can get my hands on and this pattern is just so cute! I layered some ripped white corrugate and added a bunch of patterned papers in blues and yellow to coordinate with my photo.  I added little touches of embellishment all over... the "anchors away" sticker, anchor flair, and some braided twine all echo the nautical theme. 

Gold goes really well with navy and white so I used the compass mask from the Artist Edition cards with gold mist in the upper corner.  

I went completely traditional for the colors on my card and added red.  I created this simple Bon Voyage card for friends moving overseas or perhaps for cruise-goers.  

The large anchor is one of my favorite elements from Down by the Shore.  I just love the variety of scale in that button pack!

Sketch Monday with Tessa

Howdy! My son recently turned four and we celebrated with a cowboy birthday party. Several designs from the Swagger line matched photos from his party perfectly.

To create this page, I started by making this sketch:

The distressed wood pattern on the Debonair paper made for a perfect rough-and-tumble background. Because I wanted to emphasize my center photograph, I backed it with the gray corrugate paper. I also used the corrugate paper to add page corners. I can't get enough of that texture!

Even though the Swagger line doesn't include any "western" designs, the colors of the chevron on the Dependable paper matched my cowboy's outfit, so I trimmed chevron arrows and used them to line up my pictures. A bit of the same pattern on the very bottom of the layout helps to anchor the design of the page.

I finished the layout with a die-cut title and printed journaling strips. A few threaded buttons and a die-cut "4" were all the embellishments I chose. I wanted that cute face to be the center of attention.

When all was said and done, I wanted to test my sketch by making a card with my leftover pieces.

Instead of a row of photos, I used a rectangular pocket. I plan to slip a gift card inside. I used the alpha stickers to add a sentiment where my title space was, and placed a die-cut where the journaling would be. I used the man die-cut like I used the buttons. I duplicated the corners, chevron arrow and bottom strip. The card came together in just a few minutes, which is great! I usually agonize over cards.

I hope you find this sketch useful for your next layout or card. You might find yourself letting out a "yeehaw!" when you're done!

Project Life with Diana

Good day fellow Fancy Pants Designs lovers! Today I would like to share my Project Life process with you.

Like many people, my life is pretty busy and I never thought I’d have the time to participate in Project Life. Not true. Everyone can. You just need to find the right kind of Project Life that works best for you. I like the smaller version instead of the 12 x 12. It is much easier to for me to do when I am crunched for time. I mostly take pictures with my phone which makes documenting my day to day life much simpler.

When I create my Project Life spread, I like to have a little cohesion between the two pages. For this spread, the Haute paper was what I used to ground all of my elements.

My next step is to create my title section for the week and the journaling block. I do not detail my entire week but, instead focus on the highlights.

After I typed up my journaling and adhered it to the grounding paper, the bottom right corner looked a tad too plain for me. The little sticker banners worked great to fill in the empty space and added a little pizazz to the page.

FOCUS ON : WORDS with Becky

Hello Friends!

My focus today is on using WORDS on your projects.

Words can help you tell a story or deliver a message. I have not been granted a gift for writing so I often find inspiration in places like magazines, movies, books, advertising, and of course Pinterest!

Like many of you (I’m sure) I have a board on Pinterest where I pin quotes, and sentiments that I can use on my projects. I use it often to find just the right title to tie my project together. Another amazing place to find title, quote or sentiment inspiration is in the works of Dr. Seuss! The man was a genius!

Today I’ve used one of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes that comes in stencil form in the Fancy Pants Designs You/True Stencil set. To keep with the word focus I decided to make a mixed media style canvas for my daughter to hang in her room...

I must apologize, I had intended to take pictures of my project throughout the creative process but I guess I got on a roll and it was almost done before I realized that I hadn’t taken any pictures. I’ll share the steps of my process with you anyways...

I started by gluing the script patterned paper from the Swagger line down to a 12x12 canvas with Mod Podge.

I painted a thin layer of blue paint over top of the paper so that the pattern could still be seen under the paint.

I used papers from various Fancy Pants Designs collections to make the flowers and glued them down next.

I used a paper punch to create the scalloped boarder down the left side of the canvas and layered it with one of the Fancy Pants Designs Tape Stickers.

I added paint to the edges of the paper pieces to add depth and dimension

I used the You/True stencils set and painted it with black paint to add the text to the canvas.

I used the 3x8 Patterned Stencils to add more layers and dimension.

I finished off the final details of adding some hand written text and outlining the shapes with a black marker.

FOCUS ON : Fancy Pants Designs SWAGGER line with Céline

Hello and HAPPY May 1st! I hope your day is filled with fun and sunshine today!

Today, on the Fancy Pants Designs blog, I would like to share with you my LOVE for the Swagger line. It wasn't love at first sight at the beginning, me being a scrapbooker in love with colors (I fell in love with the Down by the Shore line right away, for example!) and not in love with brown at all. But, what I love about Swagger is the vintage look, the distress edges, the fun designs and the humor you can see in some sentences! And, let's be honest, it is simply PERFECT for MEN's layouts! But not only!

Here's a layout I made using a kraft corrugated paper as my background, and then played with Swagger Brag pad papers to create the design of my layout.

The stencil helped me set my title, while one of my Brag Pad papers replaces my journaling.

I added a few rubons here and there on my Stencil, allowing me to play with more colors than what was on my layout therefore. I was amazed by the quality of the rubons too!

Play with some rubons, add a few drops of mists here and there - the more distressed it is, the more vintage it will look!

Who can resist such sweet mustaches?! :)

I love love love those sentences/words stickers - you can put them anywhere and everywhere!

Celebrate your husband, brother, son, cousin, uncle, friend with a layout or a mini album made with Swagger - they deserve it! :)

For my assignment, I used photos from my son’s first birthday party. He was born in March and we had a St. Patrick’s Day theme for his party.  Most of my photo had lots of green with bits of red in them.  So, I browsed through the Fancy Pants Designs Brag Pads to see which cards had something related to birthdays or parties or St. Patrick’s Day or would just generally coordinate well with my photos.  The Brag Pads are PERFECT for Project Life because they fit right into standard photo pockets.

 

For my title, I used a St. Patrick’s Day download from the Fancy Pants Designs home page.  There are so many fun downloads, totally free, that mix and match well with any collection. This download said: So Lucky. It was perfect!

 

To play on the St. Patrick’s Day theme, I perched a top hat from the Swagger Ephemera Pack on a March calendar printed from the internet.

On the right side of the spread, I used a number card from the Trend Setter Brag Pad. To emphasize the theme of a first birthday, I used a large black number one from the TS Ephemera pack, with arrows pointing to my son with this “smash cake,” a cupcake with a #1 candle.

Sketch Monday with Pamela

Hi everyone!  Today I am sharing a new sketch just for the Fancy Pants Designs fans out there.

Sketches are a great way to start your layouts.  

I can't wait to see what you guys do with the sketch.

It was very easy to create those banner pieces using the Tape Stickers, I also thought it'd be fun to include a variety of frames on my layout.  Instead of a third photo, I used a frame and filled it with embellishments (or little treasures).

You'll notice that it doesn't follow the sketch exactly, I just used the sketch as a starting point.

Fall colors for your Summer!

Hi there and HAPPY weekend!

Here I am today with a brand new layout that screams SUMMER! I would like to challenge you to use colors that don't represent SUMMER at all : no red, no blue, no yellow! On my layout, I used most Fall colors : brown, navy blue, cream. These are warm colors, yes, but combine with a bright and colors photograph, everything gets together and it works!

This Humourous paper from the Swagger line is probably one of my favorites. Though I'm not really into brown (this is a color I hardly ever use in my scrapbooks, I don't know why...), this warm, textured brown background paper was EXACTLY the same color as the soil on my photo! There I got my main background paper!

I simply mounted that Sienna brown paper on blue, to match the blue sky.

Then I needed a bold paper, to add a tiny bit contrast on my layout.

And then, I couldn't resist using one of my favorite Fancy Pants Designs products : the Stencils :)

Once my design was done, I added a tiny bit of mists here and there on my layout and I was ready to add my title!

Don't forget to cluster embellishments together to help the eye focus on the photo right away!

Sketch Monday (on a friday) with Jenny

Hello to all my Fancy Pants Design friends!

I hope everyone is well and ready for a new sketch on this fabulous Monday Friday!!

For my sketch today, I started off with making this card:

Etcetera 6x6 Paper Pad / Etcetera Brag Pad / Etcetera Patterned Photo Frames / Etcetera Decorative Tags / Etcetera Decorative Paper Clips / Swagger Button Set

 

I used the Etcetera collection, starting with the striped frame. It is such a bold, beautiful piece, and easy to layer around. 

I used lots of foam adhesive to give add dimension. (It is also a great way to tuck in different embellishments, like the decorative paper clip!) After finishing the card, I made my sketch:

And, then I decided to make another card with it! I turned the sketch and a few of the elements from it, to create this card:

Challenge with Amy

Hi Everyone!

It's Amy Coose with my first blog post at Fancy Pants Designs!

Today I am sharing with you a layout that I created about a big surprise I gave my sweet daughter. I will admit, I only scrapbook single page layouts - I think the last double page layout I did was back when I first started scrapbooking.  

However, when I surprised my daughter this year with a visit from her best friend who had moved out of state, you can imagine how many photos I ended up with.  Since I knew I had a good number of pictures I wanted to include, I stepped out of my "single page layout" box and decided to create a double page spread.  

It was so freeing to be able to use every picture I wanted without my layout being cluttered or too busy. I changed the photos to black and white, which worked perfectly with the gorgeous colors in the Trend Setter line. Here is what I came up with.

After I had my design, I had the best time adding the fabulous Trend Setter embellishments all around the pages.
