Fall colors for your Summer!

Hi there and HAPPY weekend!

Here I am today with a brand new layout that screams SUMMER! I would like to challenge you to use colors that don't represent SUMMER at all : no red, no blue, no yellow! On my layout, I used most Fall colors : brown, navy blue, cream. These are warm colors, yes, but combine with a bright and colors photograph, everything gets together and it works!

This Humourous paper from the Swagger line is probably one of my favorites. Though I'm not really into brown (this is a color I hardly ever use in my scrapbooks, I don't know why...), this warm, textured brown background paper was EXACTLY the same color as the soil on my photo! There I got my main background paper!

I simply mounted that Sienna brown paper on blue, to match the blue sky.

Then I needed a bold paper, to add a tiny bit contrast on my layout.

And then, I couldn't resist using one of my favorite Fancy Pants Designs products : the Stencils :)

Once my design was done, I added a tiny bit of mists here and there on my layout and I was ready to add my title!

Don't forget to cluster embellishments together to help the eye focus on the photo right away!

Hello!

As our new Design Team is working on awesome brand new projects for this blog, we have asked them to create a layout and introduce themselves to you! In the upcoming days, you'll get to meet our new designers and be amazed by their incredible talent!

Today, Céline Navarro and Jenny Evans are introducing themselves as new Fancy Pants Designs Designers!

Here's a little bit more about Jenny : 

My name is Jenny Evans and I live in Oklahoma with my husband, Justin, and our 2 boys, Daniel(10) and Jacob(4). I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, but am now a stay-at-home mom. I have been scrapbooking and papercrafting on and off for 10 years, but only consistently for the past couple of years. My scrapbook style is a healthy mix of trendy, contemporary, modern, and maybe a bit of whimsical thrown in. Besides scrapping my fun and fabulous family, I enjoy photography, reading and cooking. I am so excited to be designing for Fancy Pants Designs, and to be a part of this amazing team!!

Discover Céline's world with this colorful layout : 

"I'm so excited to be part of the Fancy Pants Design Team! To introduce myself, I wanted to make a layout about one of my passions : travelling. When I opened my Fancy Pants Designs products box and came accross this amazing 'Seize the Day' Stencil Quote, I knew that I would use it quite fast as this is exactly the way I see life!"

Céline simply misted the Stencil Quote and used her sewing machine to outline the die-cut. It was then mounted with 3D foam. She then added a thin layer of gesso on her background paper to make her center piece pop out from it.

She used some trendy colors on this layout : yellow/navy blue/aqua with a tiny bit of coral red.

Sketch Time: October Card Challenge Inspiration!

Hey everyone! We are enjoying seeing those cards of yours on our Facebook page for this month's Card Challenge. Haven't joined in on the fun yet? You still have time! And Greta Hammond has some great inspiration here based on this month's sketch! She is using our fabulous The Good Life collection!

Greta says, "Working with a sketch takes the pressure off of that "how do I get started??" question. I simply started playing with the layers of this sketch and loved how the chipboard frames fit perfectly into the equation while adding dimension as well. This turned out to be a quick easy solution to handmade cards!"

Fancy Friday Freebie! + FFF Inspiration

Sept. Snippets by Kim Watson
Kim says, "The great thing about the Fancy Pants downloads, is that they can be worked into just about any collection with a little creative intervention. For my page, September Snippets, I used products from The Good Life, but needed the printed downloads to work with the page 'color-wise'. Let me explain how I solved the problem:

The Country Boutique banner- I added red pennant shapes & buttons.
The Library card & pocket- I re-colored it with yellow mist then inked the edges. Adding red pennant shapes tied it in perfectly.

The Ribbon banner- I used it as a base for my 'snippets' title, & added mini alphas.
The Good Life Ribbon- I didn't have to add anything here, but cut out the rosette & layered it with foam squares.

Make Memories note pad- I used the ledger page as my journal block below the main photo. The red chevron shape ties it in with the rest of the page."

 

Sweet Shadowbox by Amy Peterman
I used today's freebie!! I scaled the ticket down and printed two. I cut them out by hand and added them to my shadowbox with a bit of foam adhesive for some dimension.

Using some of our pretty Hopscotch collection (Tape Stickers, Mingled Buttons and Sticker fundamentals) and one of the Artist Edition Just Words Stencil Cards, made this project quick and fun!

Suzanne says, "As a son for an athlete, this gives me every reason to pull out the Little Sport Collection! It has a variety of papers fit for any type of spirt. I love this photo of my son hugging his teammate. The boys will be boys was a perfect caption! Found this in the coordinating 4x6 brag pad. A great source to turn to for adding extra layers, and quick embellishments. I love tags, and pockets! I chose to use the Fancy Friday Freebie library pocket download! A Peek at Creative heART and Soul

Well, friends, today I am off to the United Kingdom to teach at the Creative heART and Soul event in Coventry!  I am very excited to be visiting Europe as this will be my first trip there and I'll be bringing along my cute little daughter, Abbi, to see just what it is that I do when I leave for a bit to go 'teach' at events! Plus, my parents have always wanted to go there, so they will be hanging with us as well! {I might be missing my post next week with all the traveling, so if I do, I'll be sure to catch up the following week with all the fun that happened at the event!}

So, to inspire you a bit, I have a few images of the mini album and the layout class I'll be teaching while I am there! I am thrilled with the classes—the mini book uses our new and ever popular journaling cards as the base—so fun—and I also incorporated a set of our stencil cards—seriously love these items for everything these days, and I couldn't go without using The Good Life collection here—turned out just as I had hoped! Definitely this book is among my favorites for classes I've worked on! 





And, the layout class uses our bright and cheerful fall collection Hopscotch!  I love using little photos and cute items to add special little touches to great big layouts—here's a look at the little accent banner! Tease :)!

Travel by Jing-Jing Nickel
Jing-Jing says, "I downloaded the It's the Little Things rub-on and then converted it into an SVG cut.  After removing the birdie in its cage, it made for a lovely corner accent piece. I decorated the chipboard frame with it."

Memo Notebook by Betsy Veldman
Betsy says, "I created a fun journaling notebook using the Journaling Notepad and The Good Life Ribbon. I embellished my notebook by simply mimicking some of the digital elements. I wrapped some twine around the twine image and topped it with a chipboard button. I also added a real paper clip over the digital version ... the result is a fun 3D look.




A quick tip for creating dimensional elements using digital images—print several of them, cut out elements and layer with foam adhesive. To make my dimensional ribbon accent, I printed the Good Life Ribbon four times and cut them out as shown in the photo. I added a bit of stitching, layered them with foam and voila!  A fun, dimensional accent!

Memory Brag Book by Yuki Shimada
Yuki explains, "I’m a big fan of Fancy Friday Freebies! I’m looking forward to new fun art every Friday. I have already posted 1 project using a Library Card last month. Today I’d like to share another project using 5 freebies with you! I made my Memory Book 2013 using a Brag Book. I printed and hand cut the Journaling Notepad, the Country Boutique Digital Garland, and The Good Life Ribbon for the cover page.



The Artist Edition Banner is perfect for title space! I printed numbers from the digital Off to School digital collection. I got 2 sets of alphas and numbers only for $2.99! You can purchase it at jessicasprague.com



I think the Love Note Tag is so versatile. I printed it around 6 inches wide and inserted it in the Brag Book.



I used my favorite stamp from The Good Life collection and stickers from the Off to School collection on it."

Greta says, "These downloads (Love Note Tag and Journaling Notepad) are so easy print and use on just about anything. I chose to layer them onto some cards using the Hopscotch line. They are a great addition!"

Sketch Time Inspiration!

Pamela says, "I added a bit more embellishments to the sketch, but other than that I followed it pretty closely. I LOVE this fun collection (The Good Life). I combined it with the awesome white corrugated cardstock and it made the color on the papers just pop! Another product I just LOVE are the new Artist Edition Stencil Cards, they are a great addition to any page!"

Piradee says, "I love the sketch that Jodi provided, the possibilities to create with it is just endless. And for my layout I wanted to create a balance between the white space and being able to incorporate all the different elements. Using the Summer Soul collection, I first started cutting various pattern papers for the center piece and also created a fun confetti envelop in the middle. Then using the rub-ons, I added the faux stitching to the sides and cut out the flower to be used as an embellishment. Then finally, using my silhouette machine I cut the title for the layout with one of the pattern papers; to complete the layout. Be Happy!"

Jess says, "I immediately knew when I saw this sketch that it would be perfect for a page featuring my baby girl's birth announcement. The design is simple and keeps the focus on the photo area. My 5x7 card was already a collage and it had plenty of detail so I didn't want to overwhelm the page with lots of embellishments. And it was super excellent that the Hopscotch line perfectly matched my announcement colors!"

Home by Vicki Chrisman
Vicki says, "I love the Country Boutique line and thought that I would choose papers from the line that were monocromatic in color. I like how the subtle colors and patterns are so beatutiful, but still keep the focus on the photo."

Headbands and Happiness {organization}

Hello Fancy Pants Designs Friends! I have really been missing out on a lot of the fun that happens here with our amazing design team so I really wanted to find a way to keep myself in the creating loop! The only way to do that was to commit myself to a weekly post! So, looks like you will get to see a lot more of me ... every Wednesday to be exact!  {Unless I miss a week here and there—I've been known to do that ;P, but I'm hoping that won't be the case!} Anyway, I don't have any fabulous title or theme in mind for my posts, I'm just going to be throwing out some fun and random things and ideas that come to me after scrapping for so many year ... I'll be pulling out some old pages, old Fancy Pants Designs product even, along with the fun and the new and just sharing my own thoughts and ideas that I'm doing for my own creative needs and hopefully they'll inspire you to try something new :)!

For my first 'official' post, I wanted to share a fun little idea I found on Pinterest!  **Disclaimer :): I can't find the original link—it just takes me back to google, but I wanted to post the image here to share the cute concept I built my own out of!  {I didn't add the little stand to mine as it was going into a drawer, but I think the stand is super cute for on the counter viewing!}

So it started one morning when I was trying to find all the odds and ends needed to do my girls' hair for school this year. We hadn't been doing hair much over the summer, so the chaos of getting back to school made me realize I needed to organize a bit! Anyway, I had seen this image on pinterest a while back, pinned it to my board and went on my way ... but, it was definitely stuck in my mind as I made sure to save our next oatmeal canister to serve it's purpose :)!


Rather than paint the oatmeal box, I opted for covering it with paper—I used our new The Good Life collection items! You can see the fun patterns peeking through the headbands which adds a little creative touch!

Next, I added some mini ball trim around the top edge for some cute detail ... then, I decorated the lid topper of it with some fun little accents and words from our awesome new Sticker Fundamentals sets! I love the mini letters and the diction words ... they make it simple and fun for small things! It was just a few little words to remind my girls why we get up and do our hair every morning ... even if we don't want to :)!


And, for the inside, we're storing our fabric and sporty type headbands that can fold up ... so, this awesome little piece serves two headband holding purposes!  Plus, I whipped it up in less than an hour and my bathroom drawer is thanking me for that time :) ... so is my sanity! I hope you enjoyed this project and just maybe got your creative juices flowing with all that you can do with leftover "stuff" at the house! See you next week!

Scrapfest!

Welcome to September! This is a busy month for us and one reason for that is ScrapFest at the Mall of America, on September 14, 15, and 16th! If you haven't been to this fun event put on by Archiver's you are definitely missing some fun scrapbooking time! I wanted to take a quick second to share a little peek at what we are doing at ScrapFest this year—and sorry—our classes have already filled up, but please stop by our make and take booth where we'll be doing a super cute card and hanging out getting to know all of you! Plus, we'll be showing off some fun projects that you can get info on and create with the products you can get at Archiver's! Yay!
