Inspiration From The Everyday: Beach Scene

I found this image on Pinterest. What a lovely place! I just love the juicy colors in it! So, I have decided to use this color scheme – pink, orange, yellow, turquoise and white for my page.



Of course, I chose a beach theme for this color scheme!

Inspiration From The Everyday: Wall Decor

 

Hey there! Nic Howard here with a layout inspired by the everyday. I was recently flicking through a home decor magazine when I came across this photo of a green wall with photo frames across this middle. It had gorgeous heavy painted architraves and straight away I decided I could do a scrapbook page with those elements.

I started the layout by building a base – just strips of heavy card, painted white around the edge of a piece of cardstock. This set the scene for my layout built with ‘photo frames’. I chose 5 favourite photos and I shuffled them on top of some Wave Searcher ‘summertime’ paper which was the perfect green (yessss! Love it when that happens!). I decided I wanted my ‘wall’ to have more than one background colour so I added some patterned paper from the Winterland range to the bottom half.

After papering my wall and framing my photos, the last thing to do was to embellish. Some easy embellishing from the Be You range and I was set. I love the little quotes and rub-ons in this collection, so the embellishing was easy to do!

Inspiration From The Everyday: Book Cover

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by the blog today!  Today I am sharing how I was inspired by a book cover to create a fun layout. I have to admit, I do not own this book, it was one I came across on the internet. The concept is interesting, but I was much more interested in the design of the cover. Here's the book:

I loved the lines of words next to the tall cat. I could immediately see stitching as lines, and multiple alphabets for words, as well as one cut out figure from a photo. So, I took the challenge and created this layout:



I think it turned out very cute!  I used the fun new Be You collection.  I cut pieces of paper for the lines but also added the stitching.  I just love this photo of my daughter and it went nicely with the design I was going for.

Inspiration From The Everyday: Gift Wrapping

Over the recent festive period I was inspired by the beautifully wrapped gifts which my family were fortunate to receive.

The twirled gift ribbon particularly caught my eye and inspired me to attempt to incorporate paper twirls in to my next scrapbook page design.

Whilst putting the page together I knew I didn’t want the twirled paper to take away focus from the main image, so set about using them as an extension of the page accents in hope of drawing the viewer’s eye across the page.



By cutting thin ribbon strips of patterned paper I was able to achieve the twirled effect by gently drawing the paper across the blade of my scissors and thus creating gentle twirls which tumble from the top to the bottom of the page design.



Inspiration certainly is all around and I hope I have inspired you today to try adding paper twirls to your page or project designs!

Inspiration From The Everday: Children's Books

With my two little girls, we spend many moments reading together. Some children’s books are real gems for their drawings and the stories they tell. I already took a lot of inspiration from children’s book to realize my layouts so I immediately thought about doing this to show you one of my everyday inspirations.

I chose a book entitled La colère de Banshee (Banshee’s Wrath) written by "Jean-François Chabas" and illustrated by David Sala. I love this colored and enchanted universe. It seems to me that this universe is itself inspired by one of my favorite painters, Klimt.







So I took my inspiration from the colors of the drawings to create this layout entitled "Smiles". I created a frame with superimposed flowers and buttons, just like the illustrator did in the book with his recurring colored circles. I also cut the wave of a Beach Bum paper to recreate the wave on the drawing. Finally, I wrote the journaling part like the way it is written in the book.



Getting your inspiration from children’s books enables you to create layouts using different collections. To make this one, I allowed myself to combine many different papers: Beach Bum, Saint Nick, Off To School papers with a Baby Mine Flocked Transparency and flowers and buttons from various collections.

Inspiration From The Everday: Light

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping in today! I believe you can find inspiration anywhere! Recently I was sick and spent a lot of time on our couch. And I was inspired  by this:



I saw the cool design the light was making above the curtains. I could also see photos instead of the curtains and a basic sketch in my head. So, I took the photo with my phone and later made this page based on the inspiration:



I hope you can see the design in my layout. I not only was inspired by the design, but was also inspired to play with light a bit. I just love the photos I used. I just hand cut those pieces that I used above and below the photos. I used a little bit from several collections.

Inspiration from the Everyday: Apple logo

Here in our family we are big Apple fans, not the kind you eat (although we like them too) but the brand that brings us all the great gadgets we use everyday! In my inspiration photo you can see the evolution of the Apple logo from the striped, colorful image to the simplified silhouetted apple image.

I have taken the first apple image and used the stripes and color scheme for the background of my project. I have combined many different FP collections for this! For my photos I've used the evolution of the Apple logo from a colorful one to a black and white one and printed my fist photo with color, the next photo with less color and the last one in black and white.

Now my project looks nothing like the Apple logo, but it just shows that we can use different elements from our surroundings and just draw inspiration from little details. Happy scrapping!

Inspiration from the Everyday: Party Supplies

Boo! Screech! Hoooowl! What's that? It's the sounds of Halloween! Everywhere I turn lately the ghosts and witches abound. But even though I no longer have kids who are into trick or treating, the sights of the holiday have me thinking treats and treat bags. That's what Everyday Inspiration is about ... gaining inspiration from anywhere! Sometimes I'm inspired by a quote, or an ad, or architecture. Other times, I'm inspired by a mood. But as all the party supplies have hit the stores, I was thinking of all the fun I could have. So I came up with this trio of bags, based on some paper plate designs.

I loved the front and center view of this skull and cross bones decoration:




I turned that into this fun little bag:



I also fell in love with the spider and "eek" with the fun colors all around. That inspired a bag using that same phrase in a rub-on!





I rounded the bags out with one using the iconic Halloween image of the black cat. I love the way they all look together!

Inspiration from the Everyday: Magazine Design

While flipping though my September 2011 issue of Real Simple magazine, I came across a page that immediately caught my eye. Both the design of the page and the concept of telling a story by focusing on numbers caught my attention. I decided to create a layout using the layout of this magazine page as a foundation for my layout. I created a sketch in my mind based on the magazine page.

Plus, the most important part of the inspiration of my layout was sharing information about my family while using numbers as a starting point for each item. Coming up with the numbers was a nice exercise and I think this will be a fun layout to look back on in years to come.

When I was putting the layout together, I knew that I wanted to generally use the design of the magazine page to influence the design on my page. Rather than just draw straight lines to separate columns like the magazine page, I looked though the Fancy Pants Designs Summer's End stickers, rub-ons and chipboard embellishments to find elements that could be the dividing lines. There were several straight line embellishments that fit perfectly into the space. It was fun mixing a wide variety of embellishments on this layout.

Inspiration from the Everyday: Silhouettes

This week’s Inspiration from the Everyday combines two of my favorite things: bargains and internet shopping!

I am a sucker for a bargain, so when I saw a silhouette die-cutting cartridge in the clearance bin at one of my favorite craft stores, I couldn’t pass it by; in the cart and to my house it went! I had NO clue what I was going to do with it, but I could not leave it in that bin for a mere $15.00!

Fast forward to my recent internet shopping spree on Etsy … looking for a creative anniversary gift for my husband of soon to be 10 years … I stumbled upon Apple Blossom Print. Rachel, owner and founder of Apple Blossom Print, creates personalized, custom silhouette prints. With her creative direction, I created this fabulous silhouette print to honor our 10 years of marital bliss.

As I started to shop for framing, I remembered the silhouette cartridge sitting lonely and unused on my shelf. I was inspired to create this beach layout using the Summer’s End line.

I am really happy with how it turned out and I am excited to create more silhouette-inspired layouts and projects!

Moral of the story? Don’t let a bargain pass you by, it may result in creative genius!
