1 Product, 2 Ways: Childish Things Filter Embellishments

Hi everyone. Today, I'm going to share with you two projects that I have created using Filter Embellishments from the Childish Things collection. I love the versatility of the Fancy Pants Filter Embellishments!

 
My first project uses two filter embellishments as a circle patterned for its background and a photo mat. You can cut them into a desired shape. I used them as the main embellishment on my page. They give a lighter touch on your layout.







I made two gorgeous flowers form the biggest filter embellishments for the second projects. They are so soft and easy to fold. I had attached my filter flowers on my card to give dimension.

Fancy This: Springing In With Pinwheels

With spring finally here and gorgeous flowers blooming everywhere, I'm sure most of us can't wait to go outside to enjoy the fresh air. And for some reason other than flowers, I tend to associate pinwheels with spring; maybe its the thought of running around in a fresh green field with pinwheels in hand. LOL
 


For my project today, I wanted to share these fun pinwheel tags that I created using the super cute Childish Things Collection. And here's some close up details of these pinwheels/flowers...



Another one with little clouds on top of the tag...



And to share how I put together these tags, you'll first need the following items...

Fancy Pants Supplies:
Childish Things: Playtime patterned paper
Childish Things: Big Boy Guy patterned paper
Childish Things: Buddy patterned paper
Childish Things: Sheet of Music patterned paper
Childish Things: Snacktime patterned paper
Childish Things: Strips patterned paper
Childish Things: Buttons
Childish Things: Chipboard Banners

Other supplies:
Tags, Twines, Punches, Trimmer, Ruler, Pencil, Eraser, Mist

Instructions:
1. First start by cutting 3"x3" squares from one of the pattern papers.



2. Then mark an inch from each of the edges before trimming the paper to create a hexagon.

3. Then at each of the point, cut towards the center.

4. And then along each side, fold a portion of the pattern paper over (expose the other side).


5. Then grabbing your favorite embellishments (chipboard banners in my case), create your pinwheel centers. On some of my pinwheels, I used some of the chipboard shapes while on others, I also added some buttons on top of the punched out circles.

6. To create the tag, I first cut a rectangle and then trim off the top edges



And here's another pinwheel as a stand alone embellishment... that could be easy used on a layout or card.

Pocket Chick Spotlight: Jing-Jing Nickel

Greetings! I am Jing-Jing Nickel. Pronounce it like there are nickels in your pocket making that jingling noise! :) I am so delighted to be an official Pocket Chick for Fancy Pants, whose innovative products have been staples in my scrap room for years! I have been scrapbooking since 1999. Back then it was the most perfect extension of my love for traveling and travel photography. Then with the birth of my first child, a new dimension of scrapbooking as well as a new realm of creative possibilities was born with her. Today and every day, I scrap my family, my trips, and my family on trips. No matter what my subjects are, I always stylize them with some humor :)  While I am not scrapbooking, I also work full time as an I.T. engineer.
 
Q: What is your favorite Fancy Pants product?
A: I have so many so I will pick three: 12x12 chipboard sets, die-cuts journaling tags (or booklets), stickers.
 
Q: What is your favorite technique?
A: Wit and humor.


 
Q: What time of day do you usually scrapbook and where?
A: I scrapbook on the weekends and usually in the afternoon when the sun is up. During summer I can actually scrapbook in the evening because it is light out for much longer. I have a scrapbook room and it is messy and disorganized. I scrapbook on a table almost completely covered up by stuff.  It is as uninspiring as it gets!
 
Q: What do you listen to or watch while scrapbooking?
A: I have my laptop next to me and I listen to KFAN podcasts. It is a local sports station :) I pause all noises when I compose my journaling.
 
Q: What are some other hobbies you enjoy?
A: If you can call it a hobby, I am really into group exercises right now. I work out seven times a week totaling six hours. My favorite classes are: BodyPump, BodyStep, and Cardio Kickboxing. I just tried Core Conditioning recently and I was sore for four days!

1 Product, 2 Ways: Childish Things Stamps

Hi there! Did you know that each of the new releases from Fancy Pants now has its very own collection of co-ordinating stamps?


Today, I'm going to share with you two projects that I have created using a couple of the wonderful new stamps from the Childish Things collection.


My first project is a peg board/note board which I created for my 5 year old goddaughter (aka as my Lil Princess). Like all little (and big) girls out there she loves anything and everything to do with Princesses, so I couldn't resist using the sweet little Princess stamp on my project.


I covered three clothes pegs with strips of patterned paper before adding a paper rosette to each.
To complete each peg, I added a stamped Princess which had been clothed with dresses cut from scraps of patterned paper. I had initially thought that I might create fridge magnets by adding magnetic strips to the reverse of the pegs—however sitting on my workbench was a piece of thick chipboard and I soon found myself using it to take my idea one step further!
 
The chipboard piece was covered with patterned papers from the Childish Things collection. Before attaching the finished pegs, I popped two brads through from the reverse side of the board and threaded them with twine to create a hanging mechanism. The pegs were then secured to the board using a hot glue gun.

 
The lower half of the board is home to a file folder which creates a special place for my god-daughter to safely store notes and keepsakes.
 
With a BMX mad teenager in my house I just knew I had to use the bike stamp on my second project. (My son has his eye on the stamp, but I have hidden it safely from his grasp as I know its a stamp which I will use many times over!!)

 
Using Stazon, I stamped the image onto a piece of cardstock and when dry used Stickles to outline parts of the image.

 
I wanted my stamped image to tie in with the Glitter Cuts accent which had been layered beneath the cut Filter Paper pieces.

Fancy This: 30 Minute Layout

The days are getting cooler here in New Zealand, which means they must be getting warmer in the USA.  If you are from the Southern Hemisphere it’s likely you have piles of summer photos to scrap, and those in the north will have them soon!  I’m traditionally someone that takes a long time to do a layout, but with so many summer photos to scrap I set myself a challenge. 30 minutes to do a layout ... I succeeded, so I thought I’d share the step by steps for my 30 minute layout today!

Wave Searcher: Strips patterned paper
Wave Searcher: Shovel patterned paper
Wave Searcher: Cards patterned paper

Wave Searcher: Buttons

Oct 31: Alphas

Other Supplies:
white cardstock
corrugated cardboard
string
dimensional/foam adhesive
white paint
black journaling pen & ruler
hole punch
1” circle punch
inks

Instructions:
1. Cut the advertising strip from Wave Searcher Strips paper, flip it to the reverse side, this is the base for our layout. 

2. Rip a piece of corrugated cardboard to 8 ½” wide and approx. 2-3” high. Paint roughly with white paint. Adhere approx. 6-7” from the top of the layout. (I add this to my layout for a neutral contrast and a little dimension too!).

3. Matte your photos in white cardstock. Matte your focus photo in the patterned side of Wave Searcher Shovel. Adhere both photos as shown; you may want to add some dimensional foam behind the tops of the photos.



4. Cut 4-5 ‘flag’ shapes from the different patterns and elements in the Wave Searcher Cards patterned paper. My biggest flags are 2 ½” long by 1 ½” wide. Place across underneath the photos. Do not adhere just yet; we want to add more elements yet.





5. Punch several 1” circles from white cardstock. Add stickers from the Wave Searcher element sheet.  Punch holes in the circles just like buttons, thread string through and create a banner string wide enough to go across underneath your photos. Adhere down.





6. Keep adding small flags and items from the Wave Searcher Element sheet to fill up your banner. I used my circle punch to cut some circular elements from the sticker sheet, and used some as they were.  The summer flag is from the Wave Searcher Cards patterned paper. You can add buttons and any other pieces as well – adhere everything down once you are happy with placement.





7. Finish your layout by adding a title, pen details and journaling and you are done!



Coordinated collections of papers, element stickers, embellishments and alpha stickers make this kind of page so easy to do. Banners full of interesting embellishments makes even the most simple page look interesting. All that in 30 minutes – who would have thought!

Guest Designer: Nancy Damiano

Hi there Fancy Pants fans! I'm so excited to be here with you as this month's Guest Designer. I was lucky enough to receive the Childish Things and Wave Searcher lines to work with. Here are a few things that I came up with...



I love the vintage childhood feel of Childish Things. It reminded me of my own childhood with a touch of whimsy and splash of color. I added a rectangular piece of denim fabric to the layout adding texture and more a boy feel to the layout. I cut the edge with pinking shears to mimic the edge in the filter. The patterned papers layered perfectly together and were a great spot for embellishment, a title and my journaling. The Wave Searcher line with it's dark browns and oranges was perfect for these beach photos. I created the sunburst photo frame for a special photo and added the title with my Silhouette. By layering the piece with pop dots, I was able to create a shadowbox effect. Filling it with buttons was fun and adds texture. Some stitching and layers of paper complete the page.

This little book of pockets was made to hold special photos and memories from a recent trip. The cover was created by using the journaling card sheets and simply folding and gluing 3 of them together.



The inside library pockets were cut with a Silhouette and decorated with chipboard, stickers and some simple twine. The entire book is held together with a beautiful ribbon from the Wave Searcher line.





The Childish Things layout is the perfect combination of retro and bright color. I paired it with some denim fabric (cut with pinking shears to match the filters) for a boyish feel.



I layered many different patterns from the Childish Things line to embellish, journal and add splashes of color to the layout. The filters added the perfect whimsical touch without overpowering the photos. My favorite part - the rainbow stripe pattern!

1 Product, 2 Ways: Childish Things Cards patterned paper

Hi everyone! Today, I am showing you a couple of my favorite ways to use the Fancy Pants card papers. No collection is complete without a piece of patterned paper that is compiled of journaling spots and cute cards to cut up! They're instant creativity starters and focal points. Sometimes, I use them as is, sometimes I layer them up, and sometimes I cut them apart to use parts as embellishments. Today, you'll see projects and cards cut from the adorable Childish Things collection. 



My first project uses one of the cards in a pretty traditional way: as a color blocked journaling spot. The theme of my page was about color so I was drawn to the rainbow of stripes on this card. The little bikes were just a bonus for a boy page! The size of the card somewhat dictated my design so I decided to block the areas around it with other rectangles of paper to make one solid horizontal line. Printed journaling strips help the font stand out from the card background.





My second project really lets the card I used stand on its own. The cards printed with a sentiment are great for this! I drew my color choices right from the card as well. I used the star transparency as a clear front and popped the sentiment card with foam tape so it had some dimension. Some chipboard details, a little twine and a coordinating button were all it took to complete this. I really love how easily this came together because of the card paper!







So you can see that these are two very different projects. Both from the Childish Things collection and both using the cards patterned paper but they have different colors, vibes, and uses for the cut cards.  The card papers are always the first thing I reach for when I am stuck for card inspiration or when I need a perfectly coordinating area for journaling. Love them!
