Pocket Chick Pick: Jenny Chesnick

When I saw Jenny's layout featuring Beach Babe it just made me smile! I loved the colors, the pictures, the large sun embellishment and the buttons (I am a sucker for buttons!). I scraplifted her fabulous design using Fancy Pants' new Oct. 31 collection.

I replaced the sun with a mask and adding some spider web cut out from the flocked transparency—and of course, I added the buttons down each side of the section!

Product Spotlight: Off To School Cards patterned paper

I love that each of Fancy Pants' collections (old and new) has a 12 x 12 sheet of patterned paper, printed with twelve 3 x 4 cards. They can be cut apart or used as a whole—there are lots of possibilities to what you can do with them. And the new Off To Shcool Card patterned paper is no exception. Take a look at what Allison, Suzanne and Lisa came up with when we asked them to use this paper...

Math Is No Fun by Allison Landy
Allison says, "I'm a sucker for journaling cards and tags. I buy them in every shape, size, and color. So, normally I would take the Fancy Pants Off to School Card sheet and cut it up into its respective journaling tags. But this time I actually thought it could be fun to use the entire sheet as my background paper. The individual cards were like mini canvases, but all put together on one page. I love that they are exactly 4" tall so that my photos fit across the page perfectly. To add dimension to the layout, I used some of the negative pieces of the Fancy Pants Chipboard alphas as a spray mist mask...

I also punched out shapes and used both the negative and positive images on the layout. I love how this line really lets me showcase my photos while still remaining true to the theme."

 

Off To School by Suzanne Sergi
Suzanne explains, "One product I love are the coordinating cards on the pattern papers. They are fabulous to stand alone, and make creating a page easy! However, they are also fantastic to be used in other ways, too. They are great for layering underneath papers, and to build cluster of embellishments upon. They are also wonderful when you trim them, and layer with another card, creating your own unique embellishments for your page. Here on my school page, I combined the card with the apples, and sunglasses with the ruler border that was part of another card. Of course, saving the portion I did not use. Perfect for the next page I create!"

 

Let's Play Ball by Lisa Andrews
Lisa says, "The individual cards on the Off to School Cards patterned paper make perfect photo frames for cropped photos. On this layout I cropped my photos to 2.5" X 3.5" and they fit right inside the journaling cards. I left photos out of a couple of the cards to leave room for journaling."

Fancy This: Explosion Box

I really love Fancy Pants' Baby Mine collection. I thought it was perfect for an explosion box, but this isn't just another explosion box, it doubles as a mini album and a sweet surprise for the new mommy! I really had fun making this and it was so easy and really fast. If you are anything like me ... fast is really good these days. I am thinking about doing more of these for future gifts.

So, step one is to gather all your supplies. 

You will need:

Fancy Pants supplie:
Baby Mine: Adore patterned paper
Baby Mine: Precious patterned paper
Baby Mine: Little One patterned paper
Baby Mine: Peek-A-Boo patterned paper
Baby Mine: Rub-ons
Baby Mine: Design Embellishments
Baby Mine: Buttons
Baby Mine: Chipboard Banners
Beach Babe: Trim

Other supplies:
trimmer
scoring tool
glue
double sided tape
paper clips
corner rounder
ink

Next, you want to take 3 of the sheets of patterned paper and cut them down to these measurements:
9x9 inches, 8 5/8 x 8 5/8 inches, 8 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches

Score each of these sheets of paper, on all four sides, as followers:
9x9 inch sheet you will score 3 inches from each side.
8 5/8 x 8 5/8 you will score 2 7/8 inches from each side
8 1/4 x 8 1/4 you will score 2 3/4 inches from each side.



Following the lines you scored, cut the corners off of all three pieces of patterned paper and then ink the edges.

Next you want to adhere all three pieces together, using the biggest piece on the bottom, then the smaller piece, then finishing with the smallest on the top. I used the double sided tape to adhered the pieces. Remember to only put the tape in the center square and you don't need tape on the back of your largest piece. The largest piece will be the outside of your box.

It should look like this when you have them all adhered together.



Now for the lid for your box.  Take your last sheet of patterned paper and cut it down to 6 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches. Now score it 1 1/2 inch from all four edges.



Then you will need to score all four corners of your lid as shown in the picture below.



Fold all of your score lines inward to make the lid come together. You notice that it will naturally fold into a lid.



Next you want to adhere the folds together and by using paper clips, you can keep your lid from coming apart while it dries.



Oh looky ... now you have this cute explosion box!



Next you will want to decorate your cute explosion box. I chose to use the collection Baby Mine to make and decorate mine. As you can see in the pictures below, I added a little treat in the center of the box.  Kind of fun ... don't ya think? Now, after the treat is gone, you have this cute box you can use for a mini album. I left spaces open for pictures and I also embellished some of the spaces for fun.

Saint Nick

 

Happy Thursday everyone! We're back again today with some more Pocket Chick creations. This time it's all about Saint Nick!

Season's Greetings by Greta Hammond
Greta says, "The chipboard banners have been one of my favorites embellishments but I thought I would change things up on this layout and turn them sideways. I also mixed and matched the shapes, added some faux stitching as well as buttons. I thought it made a fun border!"

Here With You by Vicki Chrisman
Vicki says, "At first I thought it might be hard to get in the mood to do a Christmas layout in July ... but not with this great line! It's beautiful! I love polk-a-dots, and thought it would be fun to pick random dots on the tree and add Glossy Accents to them for a dimensional effect...

... I also added it to the swirls on the background paper. I loved adding dimension so much, I also cut the trees apart and added foam square to the largest tree to make it really stand off the page. What a great line to work with!"

 

Naughty or Nice? by Lisa Andrews
Lisa says, "I love the new filter embellishments with the printed designs. On this layout I used one of each of the designs when layering the photos and paper. They make a great impact without a lot of work."

Guiseppa explains, "I love this picture of my daughter Janica. Even though she is getting older ... she still loves to turn over that last star on the advent calender. The Design Embellishments in this collection were perfect for the title of this layout. Once, I started this project with these beautiful papers, everything just came together."

Naughty or Nice? by Suzanne Sergi
Suzanne says, "I fell in love with the vintage feel of the Saint Nick Collection. The papers, and embellishments are full of vintage treasures! Perfect for documenting your Christmas snapshots. The collection has an old fashioned feel, so I used a photo action to soften this photo of my children. This paper reminded me of  a letter to Santa, and I love the traditional image of Santa. I added a bit of glitter to his beard, and on the fur of his suit. For added detail, I also added some underneath the image too. Christmas is a magical time, and I cannot wait for the season to arrive!" 

Elf Is Back In Town by Trish Harwick
Trish shares, "When I saw the 'Naughty or Nice?' heading on the pattern paper included in the Saint Nick collection I knew I had found the perfect paper to document our yearly visits from 'Scout', the Elf on the Shelf. I love the yellow tones that are included in this collection; very different from some of the traditional Christmas collections, that along with the blue tones, makes this collection very versatile!"

Dear Santa Letter by Pamela Young
Pamela says, "I love how all the colors go together so well. My first thought was that there was some unexpected colors in this Christmas line and I wasn't quite sure about all of them going together.  But after I started to play with it, I just LOVE all the colors together!!! I love how there is some purple in this collection. It makes for a fun, whimsical feel."

Leah says, "There's something about the mayhem of Christmas morning that's just so much fun! I try to enjoy every bit of it and let the little things go as a mom. So yes—the living room ends up looking like a disaster with toys, games and the occasional sweet treat thrown in for good measure. But thankfully everyone is blissfully happy. So, I'll take it. It was fun tilting the layout on an angle to kind of hint at all of that chaos! :)"

Summer's End

So, how is everyone enjoying our Pocket Chick's creations? Oh my goodness! I can't get over this gorgeous collection! Jodi knocked it out of the park with this one. So much to love about it ... the doilies, the colors, and those printed Filter Embellishments ... I loved pairing them with the Strips paper (which I cut the little doily banner from). Perfection!

 

Feast by Leah Farqharson
Leah says,"I really enjoy cooking—in fact, I called it a career for a few years, working as a baker and then chef and kitchen manager at a small local college, and then a dessert/salad station manager at a gourmet Italian restaurant. I did everything from bake bread, to chopping fresh herbs and garnishes, to coordinating special events complete with flowers, linens and a staff to manage. I loved the work—but when I realized that in order to go farther, I'd end up spending the rest of my holidays and evenings working, I decided to give it up. I still enjoy using the skills I've gained to make great food for my friends and family, though! This is a photo my husband snapped of me while I was working on a homemade brine for our turkey this past thanksgiving. It was well worth the effort!"

Pamela explains, "On this layout I cut up the Cards sheet of paper and created a background with it. I also added the flowers from the "Growing" piece of paper but put them upside down instead like they were hanging there."

Trish says, "Wow! This collection is truly gorgeous! The patterns are definately Fall, but the colors were unexpectedly versatile! This collection is perfect for those end of the Summer photos, as well as the first day of school! I had these fall pictures of my youngest daughter wearing an orange dress which I had been wrestling with scrapping; the Summer's End collection ended up being perfect!"

Greta says, "I love the slightly muted colors in this line. My fall photos are typically vibrant colors and these papers and patterns make a nice backdrop which doesn't compete. I also adore the long legged birds and knew I had to find a spot for them!"

Guiseppa says, "Summer's End has to be my favorite of all of the new winter releases. Not only is it perfect for fall photos, but the colors in this collection would work for any themed photos. I am thankful for many things in my life, but Sam has to be the one I am most thankful for. I love that this collection helped me to create a memorable layout of us."

I really wanted to capture her sweet personality. I decided to use the doily as a bold statement on my page. Perfect match for Macie's colorful personality!"

Pasta Bar Night by Allison Landy
Allison says, "Summer's End is just about the most perfect line to play with as our summer days dwindle into fall. We have transition clothes for seasons, why not transition scrapbook products? I love how this line supports that feeling of being in between the crispness and richness of fall with the energy of summer. It's soft and sweet, but yet still so full of life. The papers were perfect to showcase just such life as I wanted to capture the fun of a recent party hosted by one of my girlfriends. I particularly love the creaminess of the line. The base paper I used for this layout is such a gorgeous shade of golden-y krafty goodness. I almost wanted to eat it, it looked so delish!"

We have more to show off today! This time the Pocket Chicks are using the new Oct. 31 collection. Filled with enchanting patterns and a ghoulish color palette, this product line is a must for all of your spooky projects. Take a look ... if you dare.

Witches Rule by Greta Hammond
Greta says, "This line was perfect for these photos of my daughter in her adorable witch costume. I loved the large chipboard witch's hat and designed my page around it!"

Hocus Pocus by Suzzane Sergi
Suzzane says, "Oct. 31 has the traditional Halloween Colors we all love, with touches of purple throughout! This collection has beautiful distressed images, and you will find it filled with witches, cats, and spooky treats! One of my favorite elements of Fancy's collections, are the chipboard elements. They are fantastic to stand alone, or add some fun, by layering them! You can also take them a step further, by adding a button, or two! This paper collection was perfect for documenting my favorite Halloween witch on Halloween's Eve. What is Halloween, without a bat, or two to capture the eeriness of the season! One added tip. the filter paper embellishments are perfect for creating flowers, but they also make a great backdrop as patterned paper! On this page, I cut a circle on the right hand side of the page, and layered one of the OCT. 31 paper filters underneath, to give my page more spooky texture!"

I was totally geeked when I saw this collection for the first time. I LOVE it's vintage vibe and that TEAL! Swoon! These papers and embellishments (the chipboard elements, printed filter paper embellishments and rub-ons - LOVE!) were perfect match for these photos of my daughter, is her peacock costume.

Guiseppa says, "I really love the vintage feel of this new Halloween collection, Oct 31.  The colors are classic Halloween colors, but a tad softer. I really needed to add to my stash of cards so I created this fun card. I am sure there are many more projects to come using Oct 31."

Jen says, "I really enjoyed playing with the new Oct 31 line. I love the fabulous patterns. I think that the spiderweb Flocked Transparency is my favorite piece of the entire collection. For this layout, I layered it on top of the Night patterned paper. I think it really pops!"

 

Halloween 2010 by Vicki Chrisman
Vicki explains, "The mix of colors on this line is just so perfect!  I had these photos from Halloween that I had been wanting to scrap, and the minute I saw this line, I was pulling them out to use. It was hard for him to decide if he wanted to be batman or a pirate ... why not both? LOL!  I have always loved the way the Fancy Pants buttons can be used on either side. This time I used them so that the center inset could be used for my date. I did this by first printed off the numbers, then punching them out to add them to the centers of the buttons."

Leah says, "One of our family's favorite traditions in Autumn is going to pick out our pumpkins—and then carving them as a family! You can't see it in the photo, but I have this beautiful, huge, sage green satin witches hat—complete with netting and black feathers that I pull out every time we're planning fun Halloween activities! This was the first year that our oldest actually did a bit of the carving himself! The simple grid layout of the tic-tac-toe board was fun to fill with photos and embellishments without letting the layout look cluttered! "

Trish explains, "I typically have a hard time using Halloween-themed papers to create my Halloween layouts because the color schemes are so limited; however, I was so happy to see the October 31st collection incorporated turquoise, yellow and green into the mix! I also thought the chipboard elements incorporated a number of not-so-typical Halloween objects, including a label, witches hat and words perfect for a simple title!"

Off To School

Now that you've seen a little peek of each of our NEW collections, we want to share some projects from our Pocket Chicks, who had lots of fun creating with them. Today, we'll start with Off To School ... I think you will like what you see.

Going Back To School by Guiseppa Gubler
Guiseppa says, "I just have to say ... I usually never purchase school collections, but this one is absolutely fabulous. I would have plucked this one right off the shelve ... no hesitation. All of the colors go perfectly together. Most school collections are way to bright and cartoony. Not this one. I loved it for my daughters school pictures because this collection would appeal to the older school goers."

Who's Ready? by Pamela Young
Pamela explains, "I used some ink and dabbed it around one of the filter paper embellishments. Then I added the filter, slightly off from the outline of the border I just created using ink and then added some red stitching around it all. It gives a little bit of an artsy feel to my school layout. Love this line!"

Ready 2 Learn by Amy Peterman
I love this collection!!!! It's the perfect combo of old-school elements, classic patterns and today's trendy colors. And, who wouldn't love those printed Filter Embellishments and that fun flocked transparency (alphabet overlay)?

Trish says, "The Off to School line is just in time for those back to school gifts for teachers and friends! This is honestly one of my all time favorite back to school lines! The color scheme is a great mix of primary colors with some unexpected additions! The apple motif inspired me to create these cute pencil toppers with the help of my electronic die cutter. I think these will make great back to school gifts for my kids' friends!"

Suzanne states, "Fancy Pants has done it again! I love the retro feel of the Off to School Collection! Full of perfect themed embellishments, that help to document the school years. I will admit, the apple pattern is my favorite! It helped to enhance this sweet photo of my Kindergartner. I always take photos of my children after the school year has ended. I enjoy watching how much they have changed from the beginning of the school year. My Macie cannot sit still while her photo is being taken, so I have learned to snap away. I was so happy to have this photo of my little girl. I believe she was in the process of throwing the apple in the air! Nonetheless, this school collection will simply make you smile!"

Charity says, "For this card, I used some pieces from the banner chipboard set for this line and placed them on my title. The strips of patterned paper in this line made this card quick and easy to create."

Lisa says, "Not only is this line perfect for documenting all sorts of school occasions, but the color palette is just so versatile for other subjects too. Here I used the Off To School line to share a page about how my daughter is growing up and becoming such an amazing young lady."

 

School of Rock by Vicki Chrisman
Vicki explains, "This is defiantly not your traditional 'school' layout, but I just had to! LOL! When I pulled these photos out from the boys doing karaoke, 'School of Rock' just came to mind and made me laugh. As I started looking at the Design Embellishments and other goodies with this line, I found so many little things that just pulled it all together—especially when I saw the "School Rocks" Design Embellishment!"

 

Big Dreams by Allison Landy
Allison says, "The moment I saw this line, I was in love. The retro feel of the colors make this a perfect palette for either boy or girl layouts, elementary, middle, high school, or even university layouts ... which meant this line was perfect for me! I recently decided to go back to school and started my first course toward my doctorate degree just last week! So, I grabbed my particularly favorite paper (of which I believe I need 100 sheets) of the grid/ruler design and went to town. I'm thrilled with how those teals really add pop to the desaturated hues!"

Pamela says, "This one's another fast and easy card. Using the chipboard banners, I created a pattern on the bottom of the card. Then I added a strip of paper and a chipboard apple (LOVE those apples!). Then the 'Thanks' was cut from the Learning piece of paper."

 

Math Whiz by Leah Farqharson
Leah states, "Our oldest son is really great with math—in fact, it's probably his favorite subject. I'm continually amazed at the level of difficulty of the stuff that he just grasps with ease. I definitely feel really blessed to have 2 little guys that don't struggle with school! This was a photo I grabbed of him graphing number coordinates one day. Is he really only 8? It was fun to take the photo and diecut it out to draw a bit of attention to it! The colors and vintage flair to this line really drew me in—I can't wait to create more with it!"

CHA Sneak Peek: Saint Nick

This is the last of our collections we're releasing for CHA Summer ... and it's a jolly one *wink*! A really magical little line if I do say so myself! As I mentioned yesterday, I am back to designing, but it wouldn't be without the help of a sweet and dedicated designer that has been with us for some time ... Miss Nancie Janitz :)! She and I had the chance to work together on this fun line and I am happy to share the results of our Saint Nick collection!  We couldn't decide between modern and vintage, so we decided to do BOTH! We have lots of traditional colors in the pallet, and mix it up with some kraft embellishments and some vintage Santa Claus pieces and you've got Saint Nick! We hope you'll enjoy our latest Christmas collection!
