Product Spotlight: Beach Bum collection

Can you belive June is already coming to an end? It seems like school got out just last week and we are already closing in on July! Summer is in full swing! And this week, our Product Spotlight is a collection perfect for those sizzling summer photos. Check out these ideas using Beach Bum!

Yuki Says, "I cut the sun and the big wave from the printed transparency and applied snow-tex on the cut out wave. I also cut some flowers from the flocked transparency and painted red and yellow on them with markers."

I was really inspired by the Design Embellishments in the Beach Bum collection! So much so, that I asked my daughter to pose for this photo, just so I could use the little inner tube around her waist! I also loved the clouds, beach ball, large wave, and stars ... all Design Embellishments! Fun!

Yuki explains, "I found many cute shaped embellishments in the Design Embellishments pack and decided to use them on my beach vacation page. They were perfect for this Dolphin swim layout! I also love the Trim in this collection. I put two of the trims from this collection, the printed ribbon and the ball trim, at the bottom of my photo."

Fancy This: Yo-yo Lamp

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by for our weekly Fancy This project. I'm showing you how to make Filter Paper yo-yos! These are normally made from fabric, but the Filter Paper Embellishments work great because their weight and flexiblity allow them to be worked without tearing and you can sew through them easily. The Filter Paper also soaks up spray ink very well (I sprayed some of my yo-yos with a shimmery spray ink).

 

Today, I'm showing you how I used them on a lamp, but they would also be a cute addition to a layout or card.

Fancy Pants supplies:
Baby Mine: Filter Paper Embellishments
Artist Edition: Filter Paper Embellishments
Artist Edition: Specialty Trim (brown)
It's The Little Things: Trim
It's The Little Things: Brads
It's The Little Things: Buttons

Other supplies:
lamp
hot glue gun
spray ink
needle and thread

Instructions:
1. Create your yo-yos (repeat for the number of yo-yos you want).
Using some of the circle-cut Filter Paper Embellishments, lay printed side down, and fold in the edge by 1/8-1/4 of an inch. Folding does not have to be perfect.



Then, using a needle and thread, sew edge down, using a running stitch.



Once you've stitched all the way around the circle, pull the ends of your thread to cinch up your yo-yo, and then, flatten gently. Tie the ends of thread in a knot and trim excess.



2. Once you have created all of your yo-yos, have fun hotgluing them along with buttons, brads, ribbon and trim to an inexpensive lamp or nightlight (I got mine at Target for $10, you could also repurpose an old lamp you have around the house!).

Product Spotlight: Baby Mine Cards patterned paper

Today we're featuring one of the patterned papers from our newest collection, Baby Mine. This fun double-sided paper has so many possibilities. Just take a look at what some of our Pocket Chicks came up with when we gave them a sheet.

Suzanne says, "For this page of my little girl, I decided to use the Baby MIne Cards for part of my title. I love making my own embellishments for projects. So instead of using the card as is, I decided to simply punch the number graphics into a circle. I layered them on top of scallop circles along the bottom of my page. I love the soft color palette of Baby Mine, and it is perfect for documenting sweet moments of my little girl."

Yuka says, "I made this mini book that recorded from the daughter's birth to 1 years old. I was taking her full-length photo to record the appearance of the daughter's growth every month. When I saw the Baby Mine Cards patterned paper, I knew I wanted to use these photos. It became a project that will remain in memories, though it was very simple."

Birdhouse Tutorial

FINALLY--the birdhouse tutorial!  First, this can be a rather expensive paper project, but I think it is well worth it--a very worthy statement piece for any event...especially if you can get your favorite paper at a discount!

Also, we will be offering a paper only kit (does not include binder ring and embellishments) for this at just $19.99 (regular priced paper is $40), so if you are interested, please email lisa@fancypantsdesigns.com for more information as the paper and styles will vary!

1. You will first cut your paper pieces to 5x8 inches (*ignore the holes, they are pre-punched for the house, but I will tell you when to punch them!).  I used about 50 sheets of paper total, but you can mix and match, keep them all the same pattern, etc.  (It will also take less paper if you make them smaller, but keep them in the rectangular shape for the birdhouse to work!)

2-4. For the 'roof' part of your birdhouse, fold the bottom corner into the center. Then, fold the top corner into the center to create a triangle. Repeat on all of your roof pieces (approx. 25 pieces).

5-6. For the 'body' of the birdhouse, fold the paper in half length-wise.  Then, fold the top corner into the center. Repeat on all of your body pieces (approx. 25 pieces).

7. Punch holes in the top corner area of each folded piece. 

8. Stack them together, roof, then body, roof, then body and so on.

9. Next, take a large binder ring (approx. 1 1/2") and begin to lace it through all the pieces.  This part can be tricky, but once you lace them all through (make sure they are all facing the same direction--meaning that the folds are all on the same side as it goes around) on each side of the binder ring, close the ring and adjust until it is self standing.  (Step 10 will help this also)

10. Cut, from scraps, a circle to place at the bottom of the birdhouse to hold these pieces together.  I prefer using a hot glue gun for this portion of the creating as it has a strong hold and a quick drying time!  Once the birdhouse is lined up properly, glue the circle base to the bottom and stand up.

11-13. Next, cut a square from another scrap piece and roll.  This will be the top of your birdhouse.

14. Also using a hot glue gun, glue this piece to the top middle of your birdhouse and decorate!  I used a button to place right on top, tied some soft ribbon around the topper and added a cute little tag!

Product Spotlight: Baby Mine Filter Flowers

Well, Fancy Pants has done it! As if the original Artist Edition Filter Flowers weren't cool enough, they've gone and made them even cooler!! The newest collection, Baby Mine, has PRINTED filter flowers!

Aren't they lovely? Baby Mine has two sets of filter flowers, each having three different sizes and patterns. Gorgeous! Take a look at some of the beautiful projects our Pocket Chicks, Greta, Lisa and Bénédicte, have created with this unique product.

Greta says, “These little filter papers are so fun and versatile! I decided to make a little grouping of flowers for my photo frame. I did a lot of scrunching, folding and layering of the different sizes to achieve my results...

... I added some buttons in the center and used the banner chipboard pieces to serve as the “leaves”. Such an easy way to add a bit of texture to any project!”

Bénédicte says, "Filter flowers are perfect to embellish a layout, I could use them everywhere! The " Artist edition"’s white filter flowers are amazing but no one can resist the so cute Baby Mine line. I played with many superimposed filter papers to create a flower and I also used them as borders both at the bottom and at the top of this project. Have fun with these new products, I’m sure you won’t be able to do without them!"

Lisa says, "The new filter embellishments from Fancy Pants have some fantastic patterns printed on them. On this layout I layered a large filter embellishment as part of a photo mat and then layered up a couple of other smaller filters. The two smaller filters were the same size and I wanted the one of the bottom to show, so I cut a slit from the edge to the center of the filter and overlapped two of the petals to make the flower just a bit smaller. These are perfect for adding layers to a project without much bulk."

Fancy This: Charm Pendant

When I opened my Fancy Pants box and saw the cute Artist Edition Metal Charms, they immediately reminded me of the pendant on one of my favorite pieces of costume jewelry. Making a pendant is simple and makes a quick and easy gift for yourself or a special friend!

 

 

 

 

 

 
Fancy Pants Supplies:
It’s The Little Things: Gerbera Daisy 12x12 pattern paper
It’s The Little Things: Honeysuckle 12x12 pattern paper
It’s The Little Things: Shuffle 12x12 pattern paper
It’s The Little Things: Buttons
Artist Edition: Metal Charms
Chipboard letters
Beach Bum: Alphabet Stickers
Misc coordinating beads
Artist Edition: Ribbon

Instructions:
1. First, trace the white paper stencil in the package onto a piece of pattern paper – Best part is that you can use the scraps from your most recent beautiful “It’s the Little Things” layout!

2. Then use a sealing adhesive (I used Modge Podge) to attach the pattern paper on the charm.
3. Embellish the charm. Here are a few ideas:
•  Chipboard letters/pieces
•  Cut small patterns out of pattern paper (e.g. the birds on the
•  Roll handmade flowers
•  Buttons
4. Measure a length of ribbon (approximately 18-24 inches long) and string it through the eye of the metal charm.
5. Finally, add some coordinating beads (or better yet, make some paper beads) and you have completed your project!

You may consider brushing on another coat of sealer to strengthen the embellishments on the pendant.
