Davinie Fiero is married to her local firefighter, and raising two sweet girls, ages 7 and just about 5 on a couple of acres in a small town in Central Oregon. She works part time in health insurance, but spends a lot of her free time cutting paper into bits. She also enjoys camping in the summertime and wearing head to toe fleece in the winter.
She currently designs for Scrapbook and Cards Today magazine, Studio Calico, and Crate Paper, and loves all forms of crafting, including layouts, cards, and altered projects. When I received my Fancy Pants goodies I was immediately drawn to the filters. I knew right away I wanted to create a great big flower, and great big flowers always remind me of my two girls when they were little, at my father's wedding to my stepmom. I've scrapbooked with these photos before, but sometimes art is about the process, so I printed the photos so I could play with them again. It's been almost 5 years since my girls looked like that. It's nice to see their chubby little faces again.
The filters take spray mist very well, so I first covered two sizes with pink, and then trimmed circles from cardstock to layer between the filters to fill out the flower. I topped it with die cut shapes and a chipboard flower, and then added a brad. I slipped in die cut leaves to finish the look.
I wanted tone on tone color for the flowers on the remainder of the layout, so took advantage of some of the chipboard pieces in the alphabet set, and added centers.
My favorite release from Fancy Pants Designs at the winter show was the It's the Little Things line. I love the different color palette and all the little details. I thought the birdies were really fun.
When I saw the "Headed South" print with all the loving sentiments, I knew I wanted to do a layout about my eldest daughter Morgan.
I had fun with the design on this layout. I love all the embellishments in this line so I had fun picking through chipboard shapes and die cut elements to find the pieces that worked for my theme. I also love the trims. When using the trims on this line I purposely distressed the edges so you would know they were ribbons and not paper. I love the texture it offers to my work.
I had some thoughts I wanted to share with Morgan, so I have a large journaling space on this layout. A lot of times when you think in terms of design, journaling can intefere with the look you are after. This time, I didn't want to take that into consideration, and I typed it out until my story was told rather than editing for space.
In the end I have something I hope Morgan will always treasure, and I have thoughts on paper I don't want to ever forget.
When I saw the Brag Books, with the pockets, photo sleeves and journaling pages, I immediately went to popular social media and decided to make something for my 4 year old daughter, Payton. She turns 5 at the end of March, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to start a "book of tweets". The binding of this book makes it easy to rearrange pages, so I'm going to take photos of her on her 5th birthday and put them at the beginning, and then use this book as a way to jot down random things she says, pictures she draws, funny photos she's in, etc.
I don't want to worry about what pen I used or the blurriness in the photos I choose. In the end, I want someone to be able to look at this book and know my girl. I'm going to tuck packages of journaling embellishments and design embellisments from the "it's the little things" line in a back pocket so along the way I can fill it with birds and rainbows, and I can't wait to see how long it takes me to fill this up. I don't want to forget the silly things she says, or the challenges we face with her at this age. I just want to know her.
As for the design on the cover, because this book will be used and abused, I didn't want a lot of dimension to the design. I used a border sticker, a strip of patterned paper, and trim all the way around to add some texture. I also had to use a couple of the adorable chipboard birdies, which complemented the "tweet" theme perfectly. I'm also a huge fan of the font and color of the blue chipboard alphas.
For the inside of the cover, it was a simple journaling spot with my handwritten "dedication".
I really enjoyed this project and need to get another album for Morgan now. What a fun treasure this will be.
