Fancy Friday Challenge: Father's Day

Hey everyone! Are you ready for a new challenge and chance to win some great Fancy Pants products? With Father's Day next month we thought it would be fun to make this challenge all about celebrating Dads. Sound fun? Here is what you need to do to enter.

Create something for Father's Day. It could be a card, mini album, gift packaging, anything you choose. Make sure to use at least some Fancy Pants products when making your beautiful creation. Leave a comment on this blog post with your full name and a link to your project and you will be entered. It's that simple!

We will judge the projects and select one winner to receive a prize package. This winner will also have their creation featured on the blog. We will also randomly draw one winner from the remaining entries to receive a prize package.

*We will accept only one entry per person. If you won last month's challenge we ask that you not enter this one and wait to enter next months challenge. This contest is open to international entrants as well as U.S. Entries are due by midnight, Friday, June 5th. We will post the two winners on Monday, June 8th so be sure to check back then to see if you've won.

Designer Spotlight: Jolene Pienaar

We're back this weekend with another Design Team Member ... Jolene Pienaar!

Q: What is your favorite Fancy Pants product? 
A: At the moment, most definitely the Kraft Kuts, just gorgeous and so much fun to play with!!

Q: What is your favorite technique?
A: I probably use distressing most often, but also love to ink and sew on a lot of my pages.

Q: How long have you been scrapbooking?
A: I started Scrapbooking when I was pregnant with my first daughter, so around 4 years ago now!

Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: Mostly from scrappers blogs, popping into bloglines to read the latest updates is one of the first things I do in the morning, with a coffee in hand. Of course there is nothing like an actual magazine to browse through, but I do prefer spending the money on actual scrap supplies instead of magazines, so when I do buy them it is a treat for me.

Q: If someone was to walk into your scrap room/area right now, what would they find?
A: One massive big mess. Unfortunately I’m a very messy scrapper, I would rather use my few spare moments to scrap instead of clean up my space, so my table has piles of goodies on it, usually consisting of my latest shopping sprees.  I find that as soon as I pop the new goodies away in their special spots in the bookcase, that I forget about them and don’t use them.

Q: What do you listen to or watch while scrapbooking? 
A: My scrap space is in the same area as the living room, so I always have a TV on, it might be on the kids channel while my oldest daughter watches her favourite shows, or on a show that I can watch on and off while I scrap, but mostly it is just on for the noise which I like having around me.

Q: What time of day do you usually scrapbook and where?
A: Before my little Lily was born 3 weeks ago, I was lucky enough to find some time during the day to scrap. My eldest daughter loves scrapping with me and has claimed the one side of the dining room table as her space where she adores making cards and layouts.    ut at the moment, with my life filled with a newborn baby, I mostly only get to fiddle at nights when hubby is around to help out with her, or over weekends.

Q: What type of camera do you use?
A: Photography is another passion of mine and I’m lucky to have a gorgeous Nikon D70 SLR Camera.

Product Spotlight: Summer Soiree Rubons

This week the spotlight is on our Summer Soiree Rubons. We love these fun, bright, rubons that are sure to add a bit of summer to any scrapbook page or project!

Summer Days by Kay Rogers
Kay started with our Summer Soiree: Paradise Transparency, and added some of the rubons to further embellish her page. I love that she used a flower rubon over the bottom left corner of her photo to balance the transparency flowers over the opposite corner. Notice how she also used the "summer" rubon as part of her title!

Just Beachy by Ronda Palazzari
Ronda used quite a few of the Summer Soiree rubons to embellish her layout. She added lots of rubons right onto her background paper around her photo. She then added the flower rub-ons to chipboard that she had painted. She cut the flowers out and layered them over the other rubons with foam adhesive. I love that they look just like printed chipboard embellishments! She also added rub-ons right onto the chipboard letters! And isn't it cool how she added the red frame rubon to overlap a tag, her background paper and the photo?!

Both of these layouts have me longing for summer! Good thing it is almost here! Have a great weekend and check back on Monday for our next Fancy This project!

Fancy This: Candy Box

This week's project is an adorable Candy Box from Anne Jo Lexander. This would make such a sweet gift, maybe for your child's teacher as we are near the end of the school year here in the U.S. This would also make a fun party favor, and as Anne Jo shows us, it is really easy to make!

Supplies
Summer Soiree Buttons (red button and packaging)
Splendid Rubons
Splendid Patterned Paper
The Daily Grind Gingham Ribbon
Small letter stickers
Candy

Instructions
1. Remove the paper insert from the button package.
2. Trace paper insert shape onto patterned paper. Cut out shape.
3. Add rubons and letter stickers and then insert into clear package.
4. Add candy and close box.
5. Wrap ribbon around the box and finish off with a button.

Pretty fun and easy isn't it? I love that Anne Jo so beautifully reused the button packaging too! Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check back later this week for our Product Spotlight!

Product Spotlight: Mixed Media Books

I love our Mixed Media Books. I love the shapes, and that fact that each book set comes with chipboard, felt, AND printed transparent sheets. Making a mini-album with one of these sets is a ton of fun. Check out what Kay Rogers did with the Flower Book.

This album is the bomb, isn't it? But, did you also know you can use our Mixed Media Books for things other than books? Look at these...

Anne Jo Lexander used pages from the Bracket Book for both of these amazing wall-hangings.

Cindy Tobey used pages from the Half Bracket Book. She used one of the transparent sheets and one of printed transparent sheets, trimmed them to fit her layout, and then added patterned paper under the shapes.

Designer Spotlight: Greta Hammond

Yay! It's time for another Designer Spotlight! And look who we have this week ... it's Greta Hammond!

Q: How long have you been scrapbooking?
A: I started scrapbooking about 8 years ago after my son was born.

Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: I typically find inspiration in my photos and the story I want to tell. However, I'm not against being pulled in a direction after spying a great new product! Also, I am often renewed by a new product line or a great new color palette seen online, in a store or in a magazine. Inspiration can certainly hit at any time!

Q: If someone was to walk into your scrap room/area right now, what would they find?
A: Oh my ... they would find a BIG mess. As much as I long to be organized, I am a very messy scrapper and tend to pull lots of product out while making a page. Unfortunately, I am not as keen on putting away all that product when I am done!

Q: What do you listen to or watch while scrapbooking?
A: I catch up on t.v. shows while scrapbooking. I normally don't have the patience to just sit and watch t.v. but having it on while scrapbooking works out perfectly.

LAYOUT TIPS: I traced a page from the Half Bracket Mixed Media Book onto orange pattern paper and cut it out to make the background for the three photos.

Q: What time of day do you usually scrapbook and where?
A: I don't really have a set time when I scrapbook but I often find the peace and quiet after my kids have gone to bed to be the perfect time for me to create. I have my own room so I can close the door steal away a few hours when the house is quiet.

Q: What type of camera do you use?
A: Canon 30D

Q: What are some other hobbies you enjoy?
A: I love to read. That quiet scrapbooking time after the kids have gone to bed often competes with the pull of a good book!

Fancy This: Create layout

We've got another great project for you this week! Brenda Hurd has brought us this beautiful layout that will inspire you to create. The technique Brenda used for the See Through Letters is definitely one you will want to try (details on how-to below). This is one layout you won't want to tuck away in an album. Wouldn't this be great hanging near the place where you create?

 

Supplies:
Transparent Die-cuts: See Through Letters
6x6 chipboard Sugar and Spice
Patterned Paper - On A Whimsy
Kraft Kuts 2 (sun)
On A Whimsy rubons
On A Whimsy buttons
Journal notebook - On A Whimsy
8x8 Mixed Media books - square and flower
Delight Stamps (small dot border)

 

Instructions:
1. Cut 8x8 square of patterned paper and sew around edge. Adhere to 8x8 square chipboard.
2. Paint acrylic letters with desired color (let dry), paint edges of picture, 8x8 acrylic circle and stems of flowers.
3. Using small dot border stamp from Delight stamp set and white ink pad lay letters flat on scrap piece of paper and stamp over paint.
4. Adhere Journal notebook to acrylic circle, adhere letters and then stick this to square - this gives you an idea of where you can put adhesive without it showing through.
5. Add Picture.
6. Adhere buttons to flower stems place over circle and square next to picture. 
7.  Add "Happy" rubon to the die-cut sun and then adhere to project.
8.  Add bird rubon above the 'a' and the 'smile' rubon onto the picture.

Product Spotlight: On A Whimsy Transparencies

Our On A Whimsy printed transparencies are in the spotlight this week. These beautiful, bright designs are printed on a clear 12 x 12 transparency. They work great as a whole or cut up into smaller pieces.

Amy Peterman used a portion of the Ray of Sunshine transparency on this super cute layout of her darling daughter. Amy painted, machine stitched and added paper in front of and behind the transparency to achieve this fun look.

Cindy Tobey used the entire Sprout transparency as the background of this playful page. She added paper, felt, hand stitching, ribbon and buttons to the transparency. When Cindy layered the transparency over the blue patterned paper she didn't like how dark it made the sun look. To fix this she simply backed the sun portion of the transparency with white copy paper. Another way to keep the sun looking bright yellow would be to paint with white or yellow paint directly on the back of the transparency under the sun design.

Vicki Chrisman used a portion of the Sprout transparency on this adorable wall hanging! She used the sunshine and flower from the transparency along with rub-ons and patterned paper from the On A Whimsy collection for her fun home decor piece. Notice how she placed the flower from the transparency in the little girl's hand? So clever!
