Product Spotlight: Delight Potpourri

This week's product spotlight is a gorgeous patterned paper, Potpourri, from the Delight collection. I love the rich colors of this beautiful floral design.

Kay effectively used just a small amount of the Potpourri paper on her layout. Notice how she dressed it up by using a scalloped punch along the edge and adding gems to the centers of some of the printed flowers. Beautiful!

Notice the lovely cluster of flowers on the bottom right of this layout by Vicki...she cut those from the Potpourri paper! What a gorgeous way to embellish this lovely photo!

Fancy This: Altered Frame

I am so excited to share this beautiful altered frame with you created by Liana Suwandi! With all those pretty flowers, doesn't it remind you of spring? I love that Liana inserted a printed transparency into the window of the frame. You could display the frame as is, or you could add a photo behind or on top of the transparency! Wonderfully versatile!

Supplies:
Pattern paper: Delight: Garden
Pattern paper: Delight: Thoughtful
Pattern paper: Delight: Strips
Overlay: The Daily Grind: Love Daily Transparency
Buttons: Delight
All Fall: Embellishment Kit
Border scallop punch
Flowers

Instructions:
1. Cover the frame with brown patterned paper (Delight: Garden), fold (in order to see the green side) and zig zag stitch on the right side.
2. Measure and cut patterned paper (Delight: Thoughtful) slightly bigger than inner frame. Stitch randomly on the left side.
3. Hand cut petal flower, add buttons.
4. Cut strip patterned paper (Delight: Strips) just to get quote “To live happily is an inward power of the soul) punch scalloped border, ink, attach to the frame as shown.
5. Add plastic and felt flowers to the frame as shown.
6. Decorate with brad and buttons.
7. Cut overlay and tug into the frame.

Product Spotlight: See Through Letters

Our product spotlight for this week is our Transparent Die-cut See Through Letters. The classic font is so versatile and the fact that they are clear, makes them a great addition to any project. These acrylic letters can be painted, sanded, covered in glitter ... the possibilities are endless. Take a look at just a few of the ways these letters can be used.

Ever wonder what makes our Fancy Pants Design Team Members tick? We were wondering, so we asked them a bunch of questions, to get to know them a little better. Every other week, you'll get a chance to meet one of our designers, check out one of their latest creations and learn more about who they are.

So, this week we introduce you to our first Designer Spotlight...

Allison Davis

 

Q: What is your favorite Fancy Pants product?
A: I can't pick just one! Love the papers and transparencies, they have such fun designs and great color combos.  My new favorites are a toss up between the Journaling Books and the Kraft Kuts. I can tell that I'm going to use both of those a lot!

Q: What is your favorite technique?
A: Hand stitching. I almost always find a way to incorporate it into my layout. My 8th grade home ec. teacher would probably fall over laughing if she heard me say that since in her class I somehow managed to sew the elbow of my "Class of 98" sweatshirt to the collar...

Q: How long have you been scrapbooking?
A: 3 years.

Q: What kind of scrapper would you consider yourself to be?
A: Definitely a two-page, multi photo gal. I just feel like I have so many more options when working with a larger space. As far as style goes I like clean lines and love to find ways to include the theme into the design.

Q: What is the most unique topic/photos that you have scrapbooked?
A: I made a mini-album a few months ago called my "Just in Case" album. Each page is actually an envelope. On the front of each page/envelope I have a picture of someone close to me and then inside the envelope is a letter to that person. Each letter basically tells them what I would want them to know about me just in case anything ever happened to me.

Q: If someone was to walk into your scrap room/area right now, what would they find?
A: I'm not going to lie. A disaster. The only thing missing is the yellow tape across the door warning people.

Q: What time of day do you usually scrapbook and where?
A: Usually at night after the kids are in their beds I head into my scrapbook room. Sometimes during the day I scrapbook at our dinning room table. My 3-year-old likes to sit with me and color or paint.

Q: What type of camera do you use?
A: Nikon D40

Perpetual Celebrations Calendar

TIPS: To ensure your Storybook will close, alternate position of photos, leave ¼” edge at center of page and print calendars on text weight paper not cardstock.

Instructions:
1. Cut Sparkle paper to 8 ¼ x 12. Trace stamp package sleeve scallops on one 8 ¼” side. Cut out & punch holes using a regular sized hole punch.
2. Using Mod Podge, adhere blue side of Chalk board paper to inside of front cover and wrap around the front (so you have a blue edge).
3. Adhere 8 ¼ x 8 Break Time paper with 1 x 8 black dot side of Break Time paper to front cover.
4. Adhere 8 ¼ x 12 Sparkle paper to cover with scallops on front left side.
5. Adhere 2” Daily Grind Woven Ribbon to inside of back cover.
6. Adhere 8 ¼ x 8 blue side of Chalk Board paper to inside of back cover.
7. Add chipboard, celebrate rub on s and blue ball trim as shown.
8. Print calendars from download pdf files above in the supply list.
9. Using Create-A-Calendar stamps, add months and adhere inside album.

Inside Front Page:
1. Adhere 7 ¾ x 8 Office Space paper to front page.
2. Glue green glitter transparency on 3 x 4 black & white photo and trim off excess transparency. Adhere to page. Add remaining transparency to inside cover page (lining up with front page)
3. Using Double Alpha rub on, your own handwriting and stamps (From the Garden Stamp set); add “Make every day a holiday and celebrate just living” quote.

March page:
1. Trim light blue strip from Daily Grind Strips paper and add to page about 1 ¼” up from bottom of page.
2. Add Celebrate circle rub ons to right side.
3. Stamp photo border and strip (From the Garden Stamp Set).
4. Add 2 ¾” x 4” photo in center of border stamp.
5. Add journaling and hand doodle border.

Finish the remaining months (examples below). Add your important dates and enjoy!

I am so excited about these new Notebook Journals! They are extremely fun to use and incredibly versatile! When I saw Liana Suwandi's gorgeous layouts using pages from these cute little books I just had to share them with you!

Here Liana used a couple pages from the Summer Soiree Notebook Journal. She used the orange page and layered elements over it for a fun look. Liana also, very cleverly, cut the bold blue waves from a scalloped round page and layered them over her larger photo! Brilliant and lovely!

Fancy This: Magnet Gift Set

Do you need a fun, unique gift idea? How about this lovely handmade magnet set created by our talented designer Kay Rogers? Here is what Kay says about her creation, "I got a set from my daughter’s friend at Christmas and just fell in love. Handmade, easy, and functional. What could be better?" I'd have to agree with Kay, I love handmade gifts that are functional like this one! I think I need to make a few of these to have on hand to give as gifts throughout the year!

Supplies
On a Whimsy: Patterned Papers
On a Whimsy: Woven Ribbon
Celebrate: Titles and Tags

½ inch magnets
½ inch hole-punch
Flat, clear marbles
Adhesive (Kay used E-6000)
Empty gift card tin

    

1. Punch 1/2" circles from the patterned papers. If you use patterned papers with light backgrounds you may get a spotted effect. Darker colors work best.
2. Apply glue directly to the magnet, cover with patterned paper, then apply glue over pattered paper and cover with the marble. Press down and remove excess glue at this time.
3. Cover the lid of the tin with more papers, the word “Happy” and some die cuts.
4. Add ribbon and tag.

Be Mine, Valentine: Contest

So are you ready for February 14th? Have you made those dinner reservations, bought that big box of chocolate, and made that beautiful Valentine's Day card for your special someone? Well, if you are like me, you probably haven't, and with Valentine's Day just a week away we thought we'd help motivate you to at least make that beautiful card for your sweetheart. We are having a Valentine's card contest!

Here is what you do to enter:
1. Make a Valentine's card using some Fancy Pants products. (You can use other products along with your Fancy Pants products to make your card.)
2. Scan or photograph your card and load it somewhere online.
3. Post a comment here with a link to your card, and make sure you include your first and last name in your comment.
*We will accept only one entry per person. You must live in the continental United States to enter. Entries are due by midnight Friday, February 13th. Winners will be posted sometime during the week following the contest deadline.
